Please check your visa requirements soon for travel to the United States. This website has information about the application process. In addition, inbound travelers to the United States from Visa Waiver Program (VWP) countries must comply with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) program. ESTA requires all international travelers from VWP countries to register in an online database. International travelers to the United States must go to the ESTA Web site and fill out an application before entering the country by air or sea.

Upon request, invitation letters will be provided only to accepted, registered and paid authors or co-authors of a talk/poster/workshop/tutorial/symposium. Letters are sent in PDF format by e-mail and a link to the form to request a letter is here.
PLEASE NOTE that visa letters are sent to you, not the Embassy. The Society is not able to assist you with additional documents or requirements beyond a letter acknowledging your accepted presentation at the conference.



Madison is reached by airplane, bus, and car.


The closest airport to the Monona Terrace Convention Center is the Dane County Regional Airport (MSN).The three main airport options for traveling to Madison besides Dane County Airport are the Chicago O’Hare (ORD), Chicago Midway (MDW), and the Milwaukee General Mitchell (MKE) airports. All three have good bus connections to Madison.


The main bus shuttle option for traveling from the Chicago airports to Madison is the Van Galder Bus Company ( A one-way trip from one of these airports should usually be in the range of ~$30. Buses depart from O’Hare and Midway every 1 – 2 hours.

A good option for traveling from Milwaukee General Mitchell International Airport to Madison is Badger Bus ( Buses usually depart every 2 hours and cost ~$25.


From Milwaukee (1½ hours): From the East via Interstate 94
As you approach the city, follow Highway 30 into Madison. Take the “State Capitol” exit off of Highway 30 and you will then be on East Washington Avenue, which leads directly to the Capitol Square.


From Dubuque (1¾ hour): From the Southwest via Highways 18 and 151
Take the appropriate exit to Highway 151 going north toward the State Capitol. In Madison, Highway 151 will become South Park Street. Follow Park Street to its conclusion to reach UW-Madison. Or, from Park, take a right onto Johnson Street to reach the State Street/Capitol Square area.


From Chicago (2½ hours): From the Southeast via Interstate 90
Take the Hwy 12/18 (Beltline) exit to Madison. If you are going to the Alliant Energy Center or Monona Terrace, exit at John Nolen Drive. If you are going to UW-Madison, exit at Park Street and follow north.


From Green Bay (2½ hours): From the Northeast via Highway 151
Follow Highway 151 toward the State Capitol. You will then be on East Washington Avenue, which leads directly to the Capitol Square.


From Minneapolis (4½ hours): From the North via Interstate 90/94
Take I-90/94 to the Highway 151 exit (Southwest) going toward the State Capitol. You will then be on East Washington Avenue, which leads directly to the Capitol Square.
